OUR APPROACH

Since EXTRUPLAST was created in 1985, we have demonstrated our commitment to reducing our environmental impact by integrating the production of our packaging into our industrial process, to cut down on intermediaries and supply chain flows.

We actively pursue our CSR commitments throughout our value chain, and we are convinced that they play an essential, important role in developing sustainable, cost-effective, differentiated solutions to serve our clients and partners.

Intelligently combining social and environmental commitments with business performance is our motto.

At every stage in the design and manufacture of our products, we constantly strive to: reduce our consumption of raw materials, ingredients and energy; make our formulas more concentrated to protect water resources; invest in modern, automated, energy-saving equipment that is produced locally to protect the health of our employees and the environment; and take into account post-production impacts, which include controlling our effluents and waste, and considering the end-of-life disposal of our finished products.

ECO-DESIGN

Eco-design, the driving force behind our development strategy

As specialists in co-development and private labels, we consider the whole value chain for each new product that we develop: origin and nature of ingredients and raw materials, formulation process, packaging production, filling and packing, logistics solutions, product usage and consumption, and finally, waste recovery.

At each stage in this process, we seek to meet a dual challenge: to drastically reduce our environmental impact while maintaining or reducing costs.

At EXTRUPLAST, we take a very pragmatic approach, and we are resolutely and actively committed to finding sustainable solutions that combine ecological benefits, cost competitiveness and product performance.

Here are a few of our recent achievements:

• A 30% to 50% reduction in the weight of our packaging, in comparison to standard competing products.

• The incorporation of recycled materials into our packaging (up to 100%) and our formulas (up to 50%).

Higher-concentration formulas to reduce our water consumption.

• Multi-product pallets and direct shop delivery to streamline and reduce outbound logistics.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCING

Sustainable sourcing of our raw materials and ingredients

We have been awarded two EcoCert and CSR labels – PME+ and ECOVADIS – which demonstrate our long-standing commitment to sourcing and purchasing materials and ingredients that have the lowest environmental impact.

This ambition applies to our entire purchasing approach:

• Identification, selection and qualification of local suppliers that are also committed to CSR.

• Preparation of specifications, terms and conditions that are compatible with our eco-design approach and CSR commitments.

• Close cooperation with our strategic suppliers to improve existing methods and innovate with new materials and processes.

OPTIMIZED PRODUCTION

Optimizing the financial and environmental cost of production

EXTRUPLAST seeks to intelligently combine industrial excellence, cost competitiveness and sustainability commitments.

How do we achieve this?

• By incorporating every step required to manufacture our products into our industrial process, from formulation to producing packaging to filling the finished packs.

• By prioritizing a continuous production process, without any interruptions.

• By investing in state-of-the-art, automated equipment that is both productive and energy efficient.

• By recruiting and training our employees throughout their career within the company, to help them achieve their full potential and ensure that we meet our Production and Quality standards.

• By actively and strategically monitoring new materials and new technologies to proactively provide our clients with the best technical solutions from both a financial and an environmental perspective.

This approach enables us to offer unique Client solutions that deliver both financial and ecological performance.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

Packaging and secondary packaging are major vectors to reduce costs and protect the environment.

EXTRUPLAST is committed to a two-tier approach on packaging:

First, we thoroughly review the existing packaging of our product range to achieve two goals:

• To drastically reduce the weight of our packaging units (bottles and containers).

• To incorporate an increasing percentage of recycled plastic, derived from the collection, sorting and recovery of plastic waste – typically water or soft drink bottles.

Second, when we develop packaging for current or future products, we force ourselves to completely rethink the basics, break with traditional methods and return to the essential principles of eco-design: which plastics will most effectively achieve our environmental objectives and at the same time significantly reduce costs for our clients? The steps we have already taken – integrating packaging production into our manufacturing process, modifying the plastic materials we use (from HDPE to 100% recyclable PET) and, more recently, incorporating recycled materials into our packaging – demonstrate our commitment to continuous improvement and the constant reevaluation of our methods.

RESPONSIBLE LOGISTICS

EXTRUPLAST has worked with leading French and European brands, in the food, DIY and other specialist sectors, for many years.

We view our outbound logistics – from our site to our clients – as an integral part of our eco-design approach, requiring the same level of analysis and improvement.

Once again, real solutions do exist to intelligently rethink our logistics facilities and channels, in order to reduce delivery times, cut costs and minimize our carbon footprint:

Facilitating direct point-of-sale delivery: this involves completely rethinking our outbound logistics to enable direct, day-to-day deliveries to our partners’ retail outlets, thus avoiding multiple, indirect shipments to central distribution hubs.
Providing customized solutions: since each of our client-distributors has different needs, depending on their location, customer base and the size of their shops, we enable sales outlets to tailor their orders to their needs, stock and cash flow.
Encouraging responsible transport by selecting logistics partners who are committed to implementing sustainable solutions: modern, economical fleets of lorries, vehicles running on green diesel (HVO - hydrotreated vegetable oil).
